Remote even by the standards of the ninja world, Yukigakure no Sato is a village lost from thought and memory. In the frozen tundras of a large island to the north, amidst snow packs and glaciers and out of sight of all but those resolute few who journey there, the jewel of the North has been brought low from within.
None but the oldest remember the coup staged by the enigmatic Reitosuru clan so long ago, how they assassinated those with the strength to resist in a single night and cowed those who didn't with displays of vast elemental power from their eldritch bloodline. It had been almost seventy years since the transition, and by now people had come to accept the poverty they lived in. So what, they figured by now, if they could barely get by? If everything was controlled from the Reitosuru and the families that have allied themselves with them? So what if everyone else was a second-class citizen? It was the truth, and it wasn't changing any time soon. Retribution was swift, harsh, and global; no one was willing to push, for fear of how hard they would be pushed back.

The leader of the only resistance movement to come to the fore against the Reitosuru, Hitsugaya Toshiro is either a visionary or a monster, depending who is asked. He has proven, even in the face of civilian casualties, that his utter commitment to his goals is unquestionable, and that between him and his enigmatic assistant Ichimaru Gin, they will see the Reitosuru fall or die trying. With the advent of their latest attack, which involved the kidnapping of the Reitosuru heir Yukina who is now thought to be supporting them, full war has been declared between the factions. As everything escalates and the city at large begins to catch wind, the Reitosuru find themselves in an unprecedented situation, one their reign may not survive.
